Has anyone every told you that you are just too weird…and it made you feel bad about yourself?

I’ve been having people tell me that I am weird, crazy, “special”, different…the lists goes on and on. I’ve even had family members come up to me and tell me that they are/were “worried about me” because of how different I am. As an artist, we are considered to be somewhat of a

different bread. And for a long time I use to think that being different was a bad thing because everyone around me made it seem that way. I even had to go to therapy because it would bother me so much and while attending one of my sessions, the therapist told me something that I will never forget:

“Have you ever thought that maybe they’re interpretations have nothing to do with you personally? That it’s just them projecting their own beliefs on you?”

And just like that – everything clicked.

As I’ve gotten old and began to see the world with new eyes day by day, I realized that being different is not bad at all. Being weird, crazy, “special”, all of those words aren’t bad qualities….they are unique. They are the best qualities anyone can have because that is how people will remember you. You stand out in a world filled with cookie cutter samies – you are a leader, the beat to your own drum. And how awesome is that!

I also realized that there are so many creative people who have this issue. The ones who dare to be bold and different but can never find happiness because of the constant negativity. So to start off the weekend right, here are three tips that I’ve learned how you an embrace your weirdness and turn into a badass leader:

1. Don’t expect everyone to understand you

This is something that will be difficult to adjust to…and I still have a hard time doing this but I am getting stronger day by day. You have to understand that there are people who might never understand who you really are. That can be your best friends, your family members, even your parents. And it will hurt sometimes – especially if you try to make them see that you are happy just the way you are. The truth is this: if they love you and want to understand – they will make the effort. But if not, then you will have to be strong and keep on going.

Because at the end of the day – this is your life and you only live it once. So enjoy it by being true to you.

2. Surround yourself with positivity

Embracing your “weird” personality might introduce you to new and amazing people who will accept who you are. They will encourage you to pursue your dreams. Those are the people you want to be around with! Surround yourself with people who will lift you up and push you to be the best that you are – not people who will focus on every flaw and beat you down to their level.

3. Never give up on YOU

Since we are human beings and we in a deep subconsious level want to be loved and accepted, sometimes we will throw away our personality and morals just to be liked by people. Don’t worry – you are not the only one! But you have to remember that if you find yourself having to change who you are and what do because someone else asked you to….then you shouldn’t be associated with them. You are amazing and beautiful just the way that you are. Your art is amazing and beautiful because of who you are.

Never give up on your art and never give up on you.

Now it’s time for you to be a badass! What traits or methods do you have to embrace who you are? Let me know in the comments below! Have an awesome weekend and I hope that you go out there and be badass!!
