Ever had the feeling that all of your friends are in their prime…and you’re still stuck in the same place?

Some of my students come up to me with this dilemma and ask what they are doing wrong: Am I not marketing enough? Is my work bad? Does no one like me? Should I just give up?

These questions are always running through our heads regardless if we are in a great state or not. I mean, we all feel like this at some point. Here’s the reality behind it: We are unaware of some of the bad habits that keep us in place where we don’t grow!

It wasn’t just in my students; I’ve seen this pattern in everyone (myself included). But the great thing about this is now that you know your habits, you can improve and change them. Don’t know if you have any habits that slow you down? Not to worry!

Here are the top 5 common behaviors that can kill your passion…and how you can change them today:

1. I’ll do it later

Oh the most common…which is why it’s #1. You and I both know that if someone says this, it’s an automatic “Yeah, they’re not gonna do it.” Here’s the thing, unless you are actually planning on doing it later – don’t postpone it. Because chances are it will never get done. So if you have the time, just do it now.

2. I don’t know how to do that

From experience, I know that there are a few things that I see and would just say to myself “Wow that would be awesome to learn how to do.” It discourages some people to think that they can’t do something amazing because they don’t have the skills. But we live in the land of technology where you can literally learn anything and everything on the internet. So in the words of my mother if you don’t know how to do something – “Google it!” Practice it, take some time and understand it. And sure enough…you will master it.

3. What if no one likes my work

I’ve said this many times before and I love to continue saying it because not only is it a fact but it is freeing: There will be people who will not like your work. There are people who will think you are crazy or laugh at you. This will always happen. But think about it: do you really want to be around those types of people? No way! You want to find the ones that will love your work and want to see you succeed. But in order for you to find them and meet the ones who love your work, you have to put yourself out there. Think of it this way: they are waiting for someone like you so show up!

4. I’m not ready yet

No one will every be ready, for anything. Doesn’t matter how many books you read or classes you’ve taken, when it comes to your passion and putting it into action: you will never be ready. Which is very scary, but exciting at the same time. Once you start you take action and going through the motions, it will be so simple that you will know what to do the next time around. All you have to do it take that first step.

5. I’m too busy to do this

Everyone is busy. I mean everyone! A lot of people have so many things on their plate regardless of money or status. But what separates the people who get it done and the people who don’t is that the people who get things done…..make time for it. If your passion is important to you, you have to make the time. Schedule 30 minutes or an hour a day on creating your work. Turn off your phone, shut off the television and just work on your passion. Once you start doing this, I guarantee it will make a huge difference.

Now it’s time for you to shine!! What are your bad habits? What things can you improve on to get your work done and live your passion?
