You ever get those days where living your passion suddenly out of no where feels like an obligation?
That has to be the most feared outcome that any creative would encounter. Living your passion is what you want to do; it’s what you were put on this earth to do…but there can be days where starts to feel like “work”. All of a sudden you lose inspiration and you just can’t get out of bed in the morning to continue…
And that is when dreams die.
No one wants to work at something that they don’t love or believe in, that’s just a fact. But when you feel that way in a career that you love, how do you stop yourself from turning passion into obligation? What do you do? Here’s how you can get your inspiration back:
Take a break!
I know it sounds like a no-duh factor but we really don’t take the time to sit down and take a break once in a way. Creative people wonder why they get stuck or have writers/artist block when coming up with new ideas. It’s because they have worked themselves to the bone, lost all inspiration to continue and their brain is telling them “Dude, we need to re-charge.”
Everything needs to recharge. Even your cellphone needs to recharge – think about that. So how do we do that?
Start to do things that you wouldn’t normally do.
If you’re a painter, pick up a camera and start shooting some things you like. If you are photographer, pick up some color pencils and start illustrating. They don’t have to be perfect, in fact you shouldn’t even think about perfecting them. Just start something completely different and new.
Go to that restaurant that you always wanted to try. See your friends that you were too busy to see this whole time. Just take some time to stop, breathe, live…and watch inspiration come back into your life. Wake up and feel inspired again! 🙂
Now it’s your time to shine.
What are you down days like? What do you like to do that is completely different from your every day ritual? How do you distress and get your passion back? I’d love to hear your thoughts! And if you like this post or think you know someone who would love it, tweet it out or share it with your friends!
And as always til next time – keep creating,
I like this idea to get out of yourself. Usually when we are stuck it is our very selves in the way! This eliminates that from happening. I think we all need to get out of ourself as much as we can, and who knows what possibilities our lives would have then!
Man you hit it right on the nail! The more we try to force it the more things end up looking messy! Ugh I hate! It’s very important to just kick back and relax for a bit. To avoid the burnout, I usually go for a long run or hit the gym everyday. Too bad I’ve been so “Busy” to even do that these days.. Today was actually one of those day where I Felt kinda stuck! But I said eff it! I went and got some coffee and took a stroll Around the park just to get my mind off work..Was actually very refreshing!! I’ll do my best not to let self get in the way to avoid these burnouts. Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor is this empire I’m trying build. Lol 😉 Great blog Kim! Thanks! I’ll make sure to share.
Agreed!! So glad you think along those lines and I wish you nothing but the best for this upcoming year!! Have a blast Jodi 🙂
