Thanksgiving is on its way here in the US and this is the time of year when everyone gathers around with loved ones.
A huge theme that revolves around this holiday is gratitude and being grateful for the things that we have. One of the things that I’ve noticed when it comes to gratitude, it is at al all-time high during Thanksgiving. Then as time passes, it started to fade away and people forget what they are grateful for.
The most powerful tool in creating any type of work…is gratitude.
Starting your day with a positive attitude of gratitude of the work that you do and the people around you is such an important and powerful tool to have. With just a few minutes a day thinking and feeling all of the things you are grateful for, it keeps you focused, dedicated and aligned with why you are making your work.
Here are a few ways to add gratitude to your life and how it will inspire you to create more work:
1. Thank Your Support!
Remember that if it wasn’t for people looking at your work, buying your work, sharing it with their friends or exhibiting your work in shows…you wouldn’t be where you are now. Your work has inspired and moved people in a way where they want to know you more about you and share your information with everyone around them. Even if you are still in the beginning stage of your artistic journey and you haven’t had work out there, I know that you have friends and family who are encouraging you to show your true creative colors because they believe that your artwork can truly make a difference in the world. So thank them for that!
2. Contact an old friend or someone you haven’t spoken to in a while and remenise!
We are so consumed in this dog-eat-dog world that is filled with always getting things done and aspiring to do more and more, especially at the end of the year around where a lot of us creative folks are showcasing in December of preparing for a show in the next couple of months and the due date is in December. This is crunch time for most artists that are out their displaying their work trying to get their name out there…but because we are so busy we lost the connection with our loved ones. We forget to appreciate who we have around us at the present moment and live in the moment instead of planning for the future all the time. So take a break from creating, sit back with the one you love most and just hang out!
3. A moment of deep reflection
During this time of year I ask a lot of people “What are you grateful for?” And they usually say “Oh I’m grateful for me mom my dad my cat my boyfriend my girlfriend my job my customers my art my….” . It’s a never ending sentence that they have which is great! Until I ask them “why?” and they just go blank. We have a lot of things in our lives to be grateful for but we need to understand why are we grateful for them. What about them that brings us joy and happiness and the ability to keep doing what we love. Write down a list of the people you are grateful for and WHY, and you will appreciate your surroundings more. You will get inspired to create more not just for yourself but for others.
Now it’s your time to shine!
