One of the things that I love about my line of work is that you get to meet so many talented people.

It’s crazy to meet and see what people are capable of creating – it makes me hope for the future. It makes me feel and know that there is actual talent in the world to be shared and looked at.

So when I was asked to shoot folk musician Jessica Rowboat for her upcoming album Pears, I leaped at the chance!

Before we began the photo session, I asked her what her inspirations were and what kind of images she was looking for. Every musician is different and I wanted to make sure that we were on the same page.

So it took days of communication and prepping for this shoot, especially since these images were going to be in her upcoming album. I also asked to listen to her music to hear what type of musician she was. It had to be exactly what she wanted.

This was her first time shooting in front of my camera and her first album release! So when she arrived on site with her husband, I could tell that she was a little nervous.

And I won’t lie, I was nervous myself. I didn’t wanna let her down.

As we began taking images together, I was shooting and talking to her at the same time: asking her questions about the album, why she wanted to be a musician and what her goals were. I usually do this in all of my shoots that way my collaborator begins to feel comfortable and know that I appreciate their time with me.

I immediately thought that her beauty was so bubbly and unique! She has such a spark that makes so many people fall in love with her before they even listened to her music.

And her music literally blew me away!

She has a hypnotic folk singing voice that tells deep stories of the dreams and visions of her world. Her mixture of melodic guitar and vocals just makes you want to sit down and embrace your surroundings.

I haven’t heard music like this is such a long time, and let me tell you – it was such a breath of fresh air. You do not hear many musicians who tell stories through their songs (since almost every song that comes out is a fist pumping club beat).

But her music is genuine, light and beautiful! I bought her album once it was released and now listen to it on my iPod whenever I want to feel at ease.

And it’s safe to say that our shoot was such a wonderful experience for the both of us!

And it would be awesome to see what kind of music you all love to listen to!

I’d love to hear your story!
